Six sub-counties in Bududa district are to benefit from the new six-year agriculture government project under the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.
The sub-counties selected are Bubita, Kuushu, Nangako town council, Bududa Town Council and Buchigayi and will benefit farmers who grow cash crops like coffee, and cotton among others.
Deogratious Wonekha, a specialist at the veterinary department at the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Husbandry and Fisheries who is piloting the program says that the project will give farmers items such as coffee seedlings, bee hives, fertilizers, heifers among others depending on the demands of the group.
He says that with the help of sub-county extension workers, they are going to select interested farmers who are in organisational groups only.
Wonekha says that the farmers under their groups are supposed to pay 2% to the district as co-funding based on the amount of money they will request and members must have a national ID, and a garden.
Miltone Kamoti, the LCV Chairperson expressed his happiness with the Ministry of Agriculture for the project. He told farmers from the district to embrace the program and start forming groups.
Kamoti also says that farmers have been wanting to improve their agriculture but they lack capital saying this project is now going to help them in improving agriculture.
