The capacity of Abubakar technical services limited has come under question from residents of Moroto municipality. This follows the progress of the one Kilometer road around Moroto municipality.

Last month, the State Minister for Land and Urban Development, Mario Obiga Kania launched the road construction works. However, the contractor abandoned the road project immediately after the launch. The constructor has since parked his equipment creating shock among the general public.

The Shillings 7billion road project is financed under the Uganda Support for Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project. Betty Nambozee, one of the traders in the town, says the contractor dug up the roads and left leaving them battling dust in the streets.

"They came and started digging up the roads and they have disappeared even after the Minister commissioning a ground-breaking ceremony,” she said. Joseph Komol, another trader, says that when the state minister for land and urban development launched the road works they were excited.

"The contractor has left us in a total dusty environment since the minister commissioner the work and left they also left and the tracks are parked at their yard,” he said. Joyce Angolere, a tomato dealer, says that the dust has affected the smooth operation of their businesses.

Mohamed Ismail, the mayor of Moroto Municipality also wonders why the contractor abandoned the works. "Am also wondering what has gone wrong with the contractor because I have not heard anything from them," he said.

However, the Engineer of Abubakar Technical Services at the site told URN that they were are still waiting for soil testing results. "We are waiting for the soil results which I believe by next week they would be sent back to guide us on how to deal with the ground soil, “he said.
