Police in Sembabule have arrested a herdsman for Murder. 55-year-old John Muganda, was arrested in connection with the murder of Earnest Bwana, his neighbor.

Muganda is alleged to have committed the offence on November 14th in Lwebitakuli sub-county, during a meeting convened by the village councillors to solve a land dispute between the two men.

Muganda accused Bwana of trespassing into his land, shortly after Bwana's surveyors defined the borders 100 meters into Muganda's land. Unknown to the councillors, Muganda stormed into the meeting venue with a panga hidden in his heavy jackets.

During the rather stormy meeting presided over by Rogers Katete, the LC1 chairman, Muganda pulled out his panga and stabbed Bwana in the head and chest, killing him on the spot. Muganda immediately fled into hiding.

Police assisted by operatives from the Rapid Response Unit launched a countrywide search and found Muganda hiding in Katwe, a Kampala suburb.

Andrew Sorowen, the Southern Regional Police Commander, says that Police have also arrested George Patrice Kadimba, the Ssembabule district police commander, for bribery.

The DPC is alleged to have received a 500,000 shilling bribe from the late Bwana's relative as an inducement to speed up Muganda's arrest and prosecution.

Yosam Sabiiti, Bwana's relative says that the DPC demanded for 1.5 million shillings to expedite the arrest of the murder suspect, but he managed to raise only 500,000 shillings, with the promise of clearing the balance later.

Kadimba was arrested on Wednesday last week along ring road in Kampala shortly after he had received the 500,000 shillings. Kadimba appeared before Buganda road court and was sent on remand to Luzira by Margaret Tiburya, Buganda road court Chief Magistrate.
