Fans in Busoga will have a lot to cheer when the 2011 All Africa Games 800m gold medalist, Annet Negesa, takes part in the 7th edition of the Kyabazinga Track and Field Championship.

Negesa confirmed participation on Saturday for the event which takes place June 9 in Jinja.

The most in-form female athlete at moment will certainly showcase her achievements two weeks in Hengelo, Netherlands, where she shattered her own 800m National Record from previous 2minutes 00.41seconds to record a new 1minute59.08seconds record. She also booked herself a ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games.

She will lead a strong field of national and international athletes to grace the event. The other stars that have entered the one-day event include World Junior Cross Country and Africa Junior 3000m Steeplechase bronze medalist, Jacob Araptany and Nancy Cheptegei, the double 2000m Steeplechase and 3000m silver medalist at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

The others include Halima Nakaayi, Commonwealth Youth Games 400m gold medalist and Zakaria Kiprotich 2000m Commonwealth Youth Games Steeplechase silver medalist among others.

A tight competition among sprinters is expected between Policeman Ali Ngaimoko who is expected to face stiff opposition in the sprints from Busoga’s homeboys, Hamidu Bidusu and Musa Isabirye, who feature for Ndejje University and Nkumba’s Emmanuel Tuguminsirize.

There will be no love lost among the country’s top women sprinters comprising Policewomen Justine Bayiga, Emilly Nanziri, Rwenzori’s Mildred Gamba and Fames’ Aneno Agnes as they fight it out in the 100m – 400m events. The field men and women events as expected will still be the preserve of Ndejje University, whose Patrick Kibwota, Daniel Rubangakene have dominated them for over five years now. UCU’s Acan Janneth, and Lucy Aber from Kampala University are the women field athletes to watch.
