Police in Bugiri District have recovered an operating bed which was stolen from Bugiri General Hospital maternity ward.

The bed valued at 18 million Shillings was recovered on Wednesday abandoned in a room in Buwunga Sub County, Jinja district. It was stolen last week by unknown people.

It is alleged that one of the hospital employees whose identities have been withheld registered a case of theft of hospital equipment at Bugiri central police station last night.

“I have been rendered useless at the facility after the surgical bed where I carry out caesarean section and other procedures are carried out was stolen yet my immediate supervisors are silent about it,” reads the complainants’ statement in part.

James Mubi, the Busoga East Police Spokesperson, says that three people have been arrested and detained at Bugiri central police station.

The suspects are Dr Anthony Wamasyuwu, an administrator at the hospital, Mutwalibu Kigobero, a cleaner, and Jonathan Poloch, a local guard at the facility.

He adds that more suspects are still at large and investigations are going on.
