A heavy storm has blown off the roof of Bugongo Anglican parish church headquarters in Kiyanga Sub County in the newly created district of Mitoma in the south-western region.

Rev. Godfrey Kanywe Beyanga, the parish priest, says a lot of furniture and other materials were damaged during the storm that started in evening after normal church business had concluded.

Kanywe says the situation has forced him to temporarily suspend services until the church is renovated.

Plans were already underway to renovate the 25 year old parish headquarters. However, Kanywe says the church has only 2 million out of 50 million shillings needed to do the renovations.

The parish priest says currently believers are forced to pray in the open near the church.

The area woman Member of Parliament Hon Joval Kamateka attributed the destruction to increased environmental degradation. She urged the community to plant more trees or such occurrences will become commonplace.
