A senior three student at Entebbe Progressive Senior Secondary School and his guardian have been knocked dead in an accident which occurred this morning in Entebbe.

The student, identified as Mustafa Ssebanakitta, was crossing the Kampala-Entebbe Highway from Victoria Mall this morning, in a rush to board a waiting taxi, together with a guardian, who is yet to be identified.

Bodaboda cyclists who witnessed the accident say that the two were hit by a speeding bus said to have been carrying staff of ENHAS, a cargo and ground handling company at Entebbe International Airport.

James Mucunguzi, a traffic officer indicated that Ssebanakitta and the guardian died instantly. He however calls upon the Uganda National Roads Authority and the Municipal Authorities in Entebbe to immediately institute traffic lights in the junction to avoid further accidents.

The Junction has for the past one year had several accidents occurring in the area. Mucunguzi says, the accidents often times happen only because there are no traffic signs in the junction despite being a busy area.

Entebbe Town Clerk Charles Magumba says the municipal authorities have already engaged Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA to ensure that the junction is redesigned with traffic lights to manage traffic.
