Over 30 students from the school of ophthalmic clinical officers'-OCO in Jinja City have expressed dismay over the denial to sit this semester's Uganda Health Professionals Assessment Board-UHPAB examinations.

The students say that they fulfilled all the requirements, ranging from the payment of UPHAB examination fees, tuition fees, but had only defaulted on extra fees like guild, UNSA and the 100,000 Shillings bus fees.

This, they say, is a setback to their academic progress as they will have to wait for another year before sitting for related exams.  Some of the affected are government-sponsored students who are only required to pay registration fees without paying any extra costs.

Irene Adeke says that, missing out on this semester's exams is very costly to her as she worked odd jobs for three years to save enough for her tuition fees.

Adeke says that she has endured so much to attain a desirable level of education, and it is discouraging for her to be frustrated at the climax of these struggles.

Adeke says that she has paid all her tuition fees and other related functional fees; however,  the school administrators have never come out to explain why they failed to register her.

She wants the government to prepare special exams for all the students who missed their exams, since they are already prepared to take on this challenge.

Joan Amodoi, another student, says that she was denied access to the examination card even after presenting all the clearance receipts issued to her by the school.

Amodoi says that the school administrators have stopped them from ever speaking out about their predicament, and they are only coming out to speak after missing exams.

The Principal Public Relations Officer of UHPAB, Agnes Wadda, says that they have held a successful meeting with both the school administrators and affected students.
