Sub County Chief, Accountant Arrested over Alleged Theft Of Funds

A sub county chief and accountant in Bududa district have been arrested over alleged theft of government funds. 

Paul Kusolo the former Senior Assistant Secretary for Bushiyi Sub County and his accountant Abubakar Wambalo were arrested on Friday and are currently in police custody at Bududa Central Police Station.

The two are alleged to have withdrawn 10 Million Shillings from the sub-county account in Centenary Bank in Mbale and misappropriated it.

The funds had been allocated to some projects in the sub-county to be worked on and these were timber decking at Nangururwe, Nangatya and Nabyelele bridges which were in a poor state.

The councillors also allocated money to do stone pitching, procurement of assorted seeds of onions, cabbages and tomatoes and distribute them to farmers.

The two suspects were also having similar charges after they withdrew 12 Million Shillings and failed to provide accountability.

Hilary Nuwahereza the Bududa District Police Commander says that the files have been taken to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions- DPP.
