One person has died and 13 others are admitted at Loputuk Health Center III in Moroto district after presenting with cholera like symptoms, according to health and local authorities.

The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Teko Etulia, a resident of Nataparakwangan who died at his home on Wednesday after falling ill on Tuesday. Ronosia Moru, one of the area residents, says Etulia complained of diarrhea and was vomiting before he died 24 hours later.

Peter Loyolo, the Interim Loputuk LC 3 Chairperson told Uganda Radio Network that the deceased died before he could be taken to the nearest health facility, which is 20km away. He said he presented with vomiting and diarrhea. Moru has three members of his family admitted at Loputuk Health Centre III presenting similar signs.

“The deceased started vomiting with diarrhea on Tuesday evening and he died on Wednesday. On the same day my two children fell sick and started vomiting coupled with diarrhea. As my wife and I were taking them to the health centre, my wife too developed the same signs on the way. As we speak now, there are more people showing these signs in my village and we are concerned,” said Muru who is attending to three family members at Loputuk Health Centre.
