Suspected Jie Warrior Killed, Four Others Injured in Kitgum

The warriors who were five and armed with one rifle were told to surrender but refused forcing the soldiers to shoot at them

One suspected cattle rustler has been killed and four others injured during a foiled cattle raid in Orom East Sub County, Kitgum district.

Kitgum Resident District Commissioner William Komakech says that the incident occurred on the wee hours of Friday morning as the warriors tried to make an incursion with intentions of raiding cattle in the area.

Komakech says the warrior was killed in brief gunfire exchange with a joint security team involving the UPDF soldiers and LDU who intercepted them at the border of Kitgum and Karenga district.

The warriors who were five and armed with one rifle were told to surrender but refused forcing the soldiers to fire at them.

The Akurumo parish councillor Tiberio Oyul says this is the fourth time the cattle rustlers are making incursions in the parish.

On Tuesday, a group of armed suspected Jie warriors from Kotido district reportedly attacked and beat up three women and their children while digging in Labongtac village in Akurumo parish.

Oyul says last week also, suspected cattle rustlers waylaid and beat up a child leaving him unconscious as he was going to a grinding mill in Akurumho, while another man was injured with an arrow by as he retired home from Nabolo trading centre on Monday evening.    

According to Oyul, two of the victims of the different attack are still nursing injuries in Orom health cente III. The 5th Division UPDF spokesperson Lt. Hassan Kato says security has discovered some vital documents on the deceased which will assist in the pursuit of his injured accomplices.
