Suspected Tepeth warriors from Mt Moroto have stormed Kobebe area and raided more than 60 animals at gunpoint. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon. The thugs found the animals at Kotein general grazing area just on the border of Moroto and Kotido districts, 78 kilometers North of Moroto town. It is alleged that after grabbing the animals the rustlers drove the herd towards the Uganda-Kenya border before climbing Mt. Moroto.

Capt. Denis Omara, the UPDF 3rd Division spokesperson says the army is still pursuing the stolen animals. He says they followed the tracks of the stolen animals up to Kakingol village on top of Mt. Moroto. He says so far UPDF has impounded 96 heads of cattle from the kraals on the slopes of the mountain with the aim of recovering the animals from Turkana.

Okot Obwona, the Mt. Moroto area Regional Police Commander says they will deal with the rustlers as per the requirements of the law. He adds that soon they will conduct an intelligence led operation to get rid of the rustlers destabilizing the prevailing peace. Last week, 11 goats were grabbed from the Turkana traders as they headed to Moroto market at Nakiloro village.

However, UPDF swung into action and recovered the goats before they could disappear into the mountain. Irene Aceng, the Karamoja police spokesperson says the forces will step up foot patrols to contain the situation. She adds that this is the first time this year gunmen are grabbing animals from Kenyan traders.
