Floods have swept a suspected Uganda Peoples' Defense Soldier in Moroto district. The incident occurred at Lia Bridge the heart of Moroto Municipality on Wednesday night after Lia river bust its banks following a heavy down pour.

The deceased hadn't yet been identified by the time of filing this story. According to residents, the deceased was swept away as he tried to cross the river while drunk.

Kenneth Kario Leja, a businessman in Camp Swahili, says no sooner had the deceased stepped into the water, than he was over powered by the fast flowing water.

George Obia, the Moroto District Police Commander, says  they rushed to the river immediately after receiving information but the water was too much to launch the search. He says they will conduct a joint search with the army downstream as the water levels keep receding.

He appeals to communities living along the river to report in case they see a body in their area. Obia also asks residents to avoid crossing flooded rivers, saying they could easily be killed as rains intensify.

Efforts by URN to speak to Capt. Isaac Oware, the 3rd Division UPDF spokesperson were futile as his known numbers were not available.
