A gun stolen by fleeing suspects at the Oyam Central Police Station has been returned.

Police explained that the suspects who were being held on allegation of aggravated robbery under CRB 239/2018 escaped from custody with a Police gun after attacking officer on duty, Daniel Aluku two weeks ago.

The suspects are Robert Atim and Benard Ocan.

The gun number UG POL 564804 28-24076 was returned on Thursday and handed over to , Patrick Olobo, LC III Chairman of Myene Sub County.

Olobo says the firearm was handed to him by the suspects at Acwara-Tere village, Acimi parish, Myene Sub County at 6am.

He said the suspects who are known poachers at Murchison Fall park (Karuma game reserve) accepted to bring back the firearm after long negotiations by their clan leaders.

He says the suspects claimed they were detained for a long period without being produced in court for about two weeks. The suspects reportedly disappeared soon after handing over the firearm.

Victor Saasi Kube, Oyam District Police Commander confirmed the firearm was recovered and handed over to them. He says the recovery of the firearm does not exonerate the suspects.

Both the Army and Police last week embarked on a joint operation to re-arrest the two suspects who escaped from custody. Police confirmed that the hunt for the suspects is on-going.
