Sympathizers have embarked on an online campaign to raise funds
for the 82-year-old woman who was assaulted by the grandson in Omoro District.
The victim, Lucy Anek, was seen being battered by 30-year-old Brian Okello in a
video recording that went viral on social media. The incident happened from her
home in Amilobo village, Patuda Parish in Ongako Sub-County.
A short video clip recorded on phone that lasted for two minutes and 51
seconds, revealed how Okello, the suspect severely caned and mercilessly
brutalized his helpless grandmother causing her grievous body injuries.

Meanwhile, well-wishers in Uganda will deposit their contributions
through MTN Mobile Money to Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the Gulu District LC 5 Chairperson.
By Wednesday, over 900,000 Shillings had already been collected.
Following the incident, Anek sustained injuries and later
collapsed at the roadside on her way to report the incident to the area Local Council
authorities. She was later rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for
treatment.
Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the
incident saying rights activists and other concerned citizens who condemned the
heinous act were able to bring the case to the lime light for justice to
prevail.

Okello was arrested on Tuesday by Police and charged for torture and attempted
murder at Ongako Police Station.
Local authorities applauded the social media fraternity for sharing the video
that aided police to swing into action in order for justice to be dispensed.
Anek is currently seeking treatment at Flama Clinic, a private
clinic along Dr. Courtie Lucile Road in Gulu Town.
Omoro remains one of the districts in Acholi sub region with high rates of
crime according to the 2018 Police Annual crime report.
