A 56-year-old man was yesterday (Sunday) evening found dead floating on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi Kakoko, Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district.

The man had reportedly disappeared two days after fighting with his family members.

The deceased identified as Vanansio Zirihoona, a resident of Kabisha village, Mwendo parish, Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district was also a renowned tailor operating along Kabale Main Street in Kabale town. His body was discovered by locals at around 6:30 PM.

Joseph Sunday, a brother of the deceased says that on Friday night at around 11:00 PM, a serious fight erupted between Zirihoona and his family members led by his wife Innocent Tumuheirwe and his eldest son who is also the Mwendo parish youth councilor identified as Isaac Lucky alias Chicharito over his 10-year-old son.

According to Sunday, Zirihoona had spent many years feuding with Tumuheirwe accusing her of infidelity and getting a child with another man. He says that last week, the couple had taken the child for a DNA test but Zirihoona was not happy and reportedly protested that doctors did not remove testing samples from him for examining to determine the real father of a contested child.

Sunday says that during the fight Zirihoona even attempted to burn Tumuheirwe and Lucky from inside the house using kerosene but they instead overpowered him and put off the fire.  He says that since then, Zirihoona disappeared until on Sunday evening when his body was found floating on the lake.

Nyansio Kasigazi, a neighbor to the deceased says that even when locals on Saturday launched a hunt for Tumuheirwe, his son Lucky went into hiding. It is when relatives and neighbors reported the case of disappearance at Kabale central police station. He says that they were shocked to find his body floating on the lake.  Kasigazi says that as neighbors, they suspect that Zirihoona was killed by Tumuheirwe and Lucky and his body dumped into the lake since it was found with wounds on the legs and back.

Kasigazi adds that Zirihoona had even recently accused Tumuheirwe of hiring goons from Kabale town who beat him to near death but was saved by locals who heard him screaming for help.
