Tanker Overturns with Gallons of Flammable Liquid in Amuru

A tanker carrying thousands of gallons of flammable liquid has overturned in Amuru District. The accident occurred at Payibi village in Pabbo Sub-County, along the Gulu-Nimule high way.

Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema says that the tanker registration number KBV 279 F/ ZE 3687 Mercedes Benz Actross was carrying flammable liquid from Kenya through Uganda to South Sudan.

The fuel tanker driver identified as Asad Sayid, a Kenyan national told the Police that he lost control and the vehicle overturned, pouring into the swampy area, all the fuel estimated to over 40,000 litres. Sayid who sustained minor injuries was evacuated to St. Mary's Hospital, Lacor for treatment.

Scene of Crime Officers from Pabbo Police Station visited the spot and deployed to guard the vehicle pending removal.

This is the second accident in less than two months involving fuel tankers in Aswa region. In August, a fuel tanker lorry registration number CGO 1296AA-06/CGO 1297AA-06 transporting petroleum from Eldoret in Kenya through Uganda to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) overturned in Nwoya District, along Karuma - Pakwach highway and spilled 39,000 litres of fuel.
