According to URA, the e-receipt gives assurance to consumers that the final tax paid on the commodity is remitted to URA giving them a sense of entitlement as a taxpayer contributing to the development of the country.
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has embarked on a campaign to
create awareness of the use of electronic receipts dubbed the Electronic Fiscal
Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS) in the Acholi and Lango sub-regions.
The EFRIS is an initiative under the Domestic Revenue
Mobilization Program whose aim is to address the tax administration challenges
relating to business transactions and the issuance of receipts.
On Friday URA engaged the business community and the public at
Gulu Main Market to create awareness on the benefits of the system and how it
can prevent fraud and forgeries among taxpayers to avoid financial losses.
They also sensitized the business community on how consumers can
easily retrieve the same receipts in case it has been lost as the record
remains with the seller.
According to URA, the e-receipt gives assurance to consumers
that the final tax paid on the commodity is remitted to URA giving them a sense
of entitlement as a taxpayer contributing to the development of the country. It also protects consumers from price discrimination, is
flexibly issued, and can be enhanced with personalized offers and loyalty
points.
In the drive to promote EFRIS on Friday, URA says several
taxpayers who embraced the system dubbed ‘’Mpa e-receipt Yange’’ were
awarded prizes for their loyalty.
The prizes included a brand-new Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, Tablets
and Smartphones among other valuables.
The winners include Gulu-based businessman Ambrose Omara who won
a motorcycle, Valentine Zirabamuzaale who walked away with a laptop,
policewoman Cherotich Veni won a tablet phone, Charles Odong and Calvin Oloya
won smartphones.
Catherine Ayubo, the Head of URA at Gulu Station who awarded the
winners said that the campaign will be conducted nationwide until September
this year to woo taxpayers to embrace EFRIS because it is convenient, secure,
and safe for business transactions and makes it easy for URA to assess taxes.
