Teacher, Pupil Injured as Storm Leaves Trail of Destruction in Luweero

Herbert Tumwebaze, a teacher at Ntumwa Primary school in Luweero and Enock Kitenda, a primary seven pupil are nursing injuries after they were hit by falling debris during a storm on Sunday evening. Tumwebaze sustained broken limbs while Kitenda escaped with injuries in the chest.

 

Eugene Erwaru, the Officer in charge of Luweero Central Police Station says the incident occurred at around 4pm when Tumwebaze was conducting a revision exercise with the P7 class at around 4pm. He says they had to retrieve both victims from the heavy debris as it was still raining.

 

The storm also left a trail of destruction atLuweero Girls Primary School, Luweero Central Secondary School and Mack College School. Fred Alengo, a teacher at Luweero girl’s primary school says the destruction was going to impact negatively on the operations of the school.

The storm also destroyed various offices at Luweero district head quarters including that of External Auditors, Deputy RDC, District Vice chairperson and Production department. Sam Mulwana, the youth councilor says the buildings are dilapidated and prune to such destruction in case of a harsh weather.

Robert Okello, the Luweero West councilor identifies some of the areas affected by the storm as  Binyonyi, Galuweero, Kasoma and Lumu. He says most of the affected residents are in dire need of assistance as they are out in the cold. Anna Mary Nakajubi, a resident in Kasoma Zone says that she is confused as she doesn't know where to stay with her children after the roof top of their house was blown off by the storm.
