Team Uganda Off For IAAF World U20 Championship

Uganda's team of 11 athletes leaves today for the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championship slated for July 10-15 in Tampere, Finland.

“The team will leave later today so that they get to Finland on time ahead of the start of the Championship,” Timothy Masaba, the administrator at the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN.

Jacob Kiplimo won gold at the U20 race of the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Kampala will lead Uganda's team.

Kiplimo who finished fourth in the 10,000m race at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia said he is determined to win another medal before he leaves the junior category.

Early this year the 18-year old Kiplimo also won the 2018 IAAF Cinque Mulini Cross Country in San Vittore Olona.

While Uganda will field 11 athletes at the championship, arch-rivals Kenya have entered 25 athletes. The other nations expected to take part include; USA, Canada, China, England, Cuba, Sri Lanka, Lithuania and hosts Finland among others.
