The Local Council-LCIII Chairpersons of Buvuma district have appealed to the government to support them with water vessels especially boats with engines for proper monitoring of government programs despite receiving the motorcycles they were promised.

The government in 2019 embarked on procuring over 2, 000 motorcycles for sub-county chairpersons to ease their transport while conducting government business.

However, the program faced delay after parliament by then started questioning the bidding process, until they were procured this year. The batch for Greater Mukono districts was delivered last week and handed over to the chairpersons today.

So far nine sub-county chairpersons in Buvuma have received Yamaha motorcycles. Richard Tusiime, the Chairperson for Bwema sub county claim most of their areas of operation are only accessible by water vessels which they currently lack to conduct proper supervision and monitoring. He has appealed to the government consider procuring engines at least for each sub-county.

Another Chairperson for Lubya Sub County, Fred Opondo says the government should always give special consideration to lower local governments in hard-to-reach areas surrounded by water.

Adrian Ddungu, the LC5 Chairperson has appealed to beneficiaries to put the received motorcycles to good use as they push for water vessel equipment from the government.

The Buvuma Chief Administrative Officer-CAO Moses Chuna Kapolon says the motorcycles have reached at a time when the government has increased community development programs.

He has appealed to the chairpersons to supervise such programs for improvement regardless of their political affiliations.
