Three Congolese Nationals Jailed for Illegal Entry into Uganda

The three Baati Aderubo, Mbomboa Adriko and Renje Alo appeared before Arua Chief Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon and sentenced to Gili Gili government Prison after they pleaded guilty to the offence.
Three Congolese nationals have been sentenced to 18 months in prisons for illegal entry into Uganda.

The three Baati Aderubo, Mbomboa Adriko and Renje Alo appeared before Arua Chief Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon and sentenced to Gili Gili government Prison after they pleaded guilty to the offence.

The suspects were arrested in Oluvu, Maracha district along the Ugandan border with DRC on Thursday as they tried to sell Mairungi to Ugandans.

Court heard that vigilante youths in the area became suspicious on seeing the three Congolese on the Ugandan side and alerted the police at Oluvu.

According to Daniel Lubowa, the Arua Chief Magistrate said that the actions of the three did not only breach immigration protocols but also endangered the lives of Ugandans during this time of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The arrest of the Congolese comes after security intensified deployment along the Ugandan border with DRC and S. Sudan following reports that many people from the neighbouring countries were entering the country through the porous border points without being screened.
