Three cattle traders have been killed and eight others critically
injured in an accident along the Soroti- Mbale Road.
The accident happened at Kumi- Apata near Kumi Municipality on Friday morning. It involved a Fuso
Lorry registration number UBE 489W, Mitsubishi white in colour which was
carrying livestock, rammed into a trailer, UAQ 925N/UAL 834X.
Michael Odongo, the Police Spokesman for East Kyoga says the Fuso lorry which
was carrying cows, goats and sheep was heading to Mbale.
According to Odongo, the driver of the Fuso Lorry lost control and
overturned after knocking the trailer that was parked on the roadside.
He says the injured have been taken to Ongino Hospital for treatment. Odongo
says that they are yet to ascertain the exact number of cattle keepers who were
travelling Fuso Lorry.

Movement of cattle is restricted only at day time. However, Odongo told URN
that the traders didn’t pass through the police checkpoint in Awoja. He urged
traders to follow the law to avoid accidents at night.

At least three accidents involving cattle traders have been recorded in Teso
sub-region this month.
