“So far we have three suspects, among them there is one who was arrested and was found sleeping under the bridge of the flyover, near the crime scene. He has led us to other two of his colleagues over the weekend,” Owoyesigyire said.
Three people have been detained by the Crime Intelligence and Criminal Investigations Directorate detectives in the ongoing murder investigations of Agnes Nantongo, who was the manager at Africa Oil Petrol Station Bweyogerere.
Nantongo’s body was recovered along the Northern bypass last weekend. Reports indicated that Nantongo was hit by a brick hurled at her by unknown people, who took her phone and other belongings as she returned from work.
However, the CCTV footage so far retrieved by Police hasn’t helped much, since it indicated that when Nantongo left the office, she did not board the taxi as she has always done; instead, she continued walking towards the northern bypass.
One of the officers close to the investigations told URN that the footage does not show the point where her body was found or any person that could have been following her. “But the investigations are still ongoing; currently we’re focusing on getting her last call data, and also tracking the whereabouts of the missing phone,” he said.
Addressing journalists at Naguru Police Headquarters on Monday, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, without giving details, confirmed the arrest of three people.
“So far we have three suspects, among them there is one who was arrested and was found sleeping under the bridge of the flyover, near the crime scene. He has led us to other two of his colleagues over the weekend,” Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire said that they are currently following other leads to have the assailants in the murder of Nantongo apprehended and justice served to the deceased and her family.

Cue out: … are leading us,"//
During the deceased's burial on Tuesday in Kasengejje-Wakiso district, Wycliffe Kagina, the operations manager at African Oil Petrol Station, said they were working hand-in-hand with security agencies to ensure that their former employee gets justice.
Several cases of murder along the northern bypass have been increasing, with thugs targeting motorists and pedestrians in some spots. Just a day after the recovery of Nantongo’s body, another body was also recovered near Bethany High in Naalya.
In efforts to combat criminality, Police have since been appealing to nearby communities to become the eyes and ears of the police, helping law enforcement identify suspicious activities early.
