Three Fishermen Drown in Lake Kyoga

Amolatar District Police Commander, Samuel Abedi has identified the deceased as Thomas Omara, 34, Innocent Obore 17 and Ceasar David Opito, 27, all residents of Kipangai A village, Kikondo parish, Namasale Sub County.
Three fishermen have died after the boat they were travelling in capsized on Lake Kyoga in Amolatar district. The incident occurred around 6 pm on Tuesday around Bangladesh landing site.

Amolatar District Police Commander, Samuel Abedi has identified the deceased as Thomas Omara, 34, Innocent Obore 17 and Ceasar David Opito, 27, all residents of Kipangai A village, Kikondo parish, Namasale Sub County.

Andrew Ogwang, a fisherman who witnessed the incident said that the boat was overloaded with bags of sand and that the fishermen were not wearing life jackets at the time of the accident.

Lillian Eyal, the Amolatar Resident District Commissioner cautioned fishermen against entering water without life jackets. He says that the district will soon embark on an operation to arrest those without life jackets.

On Monday, five people died on Lake Kwania, just few kilometres from Lake Kyoga after their boat capsized.

The deceased were travelling from Awelo Sub County to Chawente Sub County in Kwania district via Lake Kwania.
