Three Killed in Mbiko Accident on Kampala-Jinja Highway

Three people lost their lives in a fatal road accident early Sunday morning at Mbiiko Trading Centre along the Jinja-Kampala Highway in Buikwe District.

The crash, which happened at around 7:04 AM, involved a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (registration number UBF 164D) transporting sacks of maize from Kampala to Jinja. The truck was driven by Lubega John, a 40-year-old resident of Mubende District.

According to Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson SP Butoto Hellen, Lubega was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the road and plunged into a trench, killing all three occupants. 

The victims have been identified as Lubega John, the truck driver and a Muganda from Mubende District; Kamoga Robert, a 29-year-old turnman, also a Muganda from Mubende District; and Mbabazi Innocent, a 16-year-old passenger and a Munyankole. Their bodies have been taken to Jinja Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

By the time of filing this story efforts were still underway to remove the wreckage as police continued investigations. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies.
