Three People Drown In Kyotera River, Bodies Retrieved

The deceased, all builders have been identified as Augustin Ssebuufu, 24, a resident of Kijonjo A, Edward Mawanda, 14, of Nakatooke B, and John Ssebuuma,19, of Kijonjo B village.

Three builders have drowned in Naludugavu River in Kasasa sub-county in Kyotera district.  The deceased have been identified as Augustin Ssebuufu, 24, a resident of Kijonjo A, Edward Mawanda, 14, of Nakatooke B, and John Ssebuuma,19, of Kijonjo B village.  

It is alleged that the victims together with three others went fishing on Saturday afternoon in the river but their canoe capsized.  Three of them drowned while three others managed to swim to safety. 

The survivors include Swabir Antonio, 18, a resident of Nakatooke B, plus Denis Kibuule, 17, and Davis Kasujja, both from Nakatooke B.  Denis Muyunga, the Kasasa sub-county LCIII Chairperson, says that residents reported the matter to the local authorities and Kyotera police, which launched a search for the bodies.

They managed to retrieve one body shortly after the incident as the search for the missing two bodies went on until Sunday.

Hassan Hiwumbire, the Kyotera District Police Commander, confirmed the incident saying the police collaborated with the local residents to retrieve the bodies. He says that they took the bodies for postmortem and later handed them over to their respective families for burial.

Hiwumbire appealed to parents and guardians to always know the whereabouts of their children because it is their responsibility to keep them safe.
