Three Police Officers Held For Killing Suspect

Jaspher Ekak, the acting Kapchorwa District Police Commander, says the officers were picked up on Tuesday evening for shooting to death Richard Semu, the son to Sam Mangusho Cheptoris, the newly elected Kapchorwa Municipality Member of Parliament.
Three police officers attached to Sipi police outpost in Kapchorwa district are in trouble for shooting to death a suspect. The trio includes Medard Kabwolo, the Officer in Charge of Sipi Police post, Musa Mwanga and Daniel Chepkuri.

Jaspher Ekak, the acting Kapchorwa District Police Commander, says the officers were picked up on Tuesday evening for shooting to death Richard Semu, the son to Sam Mangusho Cheptoris, the newly elected Kapchorwa Municipality Member of Parliament.

According to Ekak, trouble started after Semu's parents filed a case of assault and malicious damage to property against him.  He says the three officers went to arrest Semu and found him taking waragi near their home at Kamusha village in Gamatui Sub County.

He however, says that on seeing the officers, Semu took off prompting the officers to shoot in the air to stop him in vain.Ekak says the officers shot Semu on the buttocks. He was rushed to Kapchorwa main hospital where he died at about 7:00pm, an hour after admission.

According to Ekak, he immediately ordered for the arrest of the officers for face murder charges. He says the officers will appear in court once their file is sanctioned by the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
