According to health officials, more than 60 cases of measles outbreak were reported in the district in January and February.
Three children from the
same family in Kagadi district have succumbed to measles. The deceased children
are Ahaisibwe Mugisha, Kusiima Alituha and Kemigisa Alituha, all below 8 years
The deceased are
children of Kusiima Mugisha, a resident of Buyaga cell in Kyenzige Sub County
in Kagadi district.
Mugisha told URN that his children developed general body
weakness, skin rashes and diarrhea last week and were rushed to a clinic in
Pacwa trading center where one of them was pronounced dead.
He says two other children died on Thursday evening at St Ambrose Charity Health Center
III where they had been admitted.
According to Mugisha, they thought the children were
suffering from malaria.

Dr. Isaac Kakibogo, the Medical Superintendent Kagadi
Hospital, says there is a measles outbreak in the district, adding that they
have registered several cases at the Hospital.

The epidemic seriously
affected Ndaiga, Bwikara, Muhorro, Rugashali, Burora and Mabaale sub counties
Abibu Mugisa, the
Kyenzige Sub County LC III Chairperson, appeals to residents to always take
their children for Immunization against measles and other communicable diseases.
He says the three children wouldn’t have succumbed to measles if they had
completed their immunization cycle.
