Three officers of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) have been arrested, for the alleged theft of more than 420 million shillings, meant for salaries of demobilized arrow boy's militias.
The trio, who include a Major and two Captains, were arrested on Sunday, on the orders of the Teso-Region UPDF Reserve Commander, Col Joseph Arocha.
Their arrest stems from complaints by some demobilized arrow boys who claim that they had not yet received their pay.
More than 500 demobilized arrow boys stormed Col Joseph Arocha, office demanding to know why their names were omitted from the payroll.
The militias reportedly told Arocha that the three commanders sent them away from the army detaches during the verification exercise and replaced them with ghosts.
Each member of the militia was supposed to be paid 840.000 shillings as salary arrears for the 14 months.
The Third Division Commander, Col Patrick Kankiriho, has confirmed the arrest, but declined to divulge any further details.
