Unidentified gunmen have attacked Festo Kibuuka, a Special Police Constable attached to Ndejje University in Luweero district and made off with his gun. Kibuuka is currently nursing injuries at Bombo Military hospital. Speaking to URN on his sick bed at Bombo Military hospital this afternoon, Kibuuka said he was posted for guard duties at Ndejje University on Sunday night.

According to Kibuuka, he walked away from his duty station at around 8pm to buy some food stuffs in the nearby town. He however, says that he was intercepted by three men between Ndejje Junior School and Ndejje S.S who tried to grab his gun.

Kibuuka says the attackers hacked him on the head with machetes prompting him to raise alarm. He however, says by the time residents responded to his alarm, the attackers had already fled with his gun. Lameck Kigozi, the Savannah Regional Police Public Relations Officer, says they have launched a man hunt for the thugs.

The attack on Kibuuka has triggered tension among residents. Justine Nakitto, a resident of the area, says they are living in fear because the missing gun could have landed in the hands of wrong people who will terrorize them.

This is the third attack on a police officer in Luweero within a space of less than two years. In January 2016, unidentified gunmen shot dead Corporal Hussein Sewaka, the former Officer in charge of Kakinzi Police Post in Luweero district.

It followed another incident in April 2015 when machete wielding thugs raided Kasana police post and killed the officer in charge, Geoffrey Bala and injured Sergeant Sarah Achan.
