The police in Hoima City are hunting for yet unknown thugs
who raided Bujumbura Catholic Diocese and broke into several offices stealing seven
laptops and money.
The incident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday morning at
around 1 a.m.
The thugs raided the cathedral diocese offices and broke into nine
different offices. They gained entry into the offices after breaking the different doors to the offices and made off
with seven laptops, 20 mobile phones and nine million shillings.
At the time of the incident, the Cathedral was being guarded by
two security guards attached to ANKA security services. They have since been
arrested to help police with investigations.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has
since identified the arrested security guards as Asuman Abigaba 43 and Isaac
Job 36 who were immediately whisked to the Hoima City central police station where
they are currently being detained.
According to Hakiza, a
team of flying squad operatives was promptly dispatched to the area to
kick-start investigations.
Hakiza says, that though Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
security cameras are installed in the area, the main server was tempered by the thugs and no clear footage could be viewed or obtained after the
incident.
