One person was shot dead and another was injured along the Ntinda-Kiwatule Road.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the incident happened on Thursday.
Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, revealed that the victim of the shooting incident was her brother, Albert Cook Tugume, who owned and operated a mobile money shop near Fraine Supermarket in Ntinda-Kigowa.
Nyanjura took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the disturbing news, saying: "My brother Tugume Albert Cook has been abducted at gunpoint near the central road. Ntinda- Kigowa road . One person has been shot dead. He operated a mobile money." She later posted an update confirming that the deceased was indeed her brother.
According to Akim Mubiru, a Boda-boda rider in Ntinda, the incident occurred around 9:20 pm. Mubiru recounted that three assailants on a single motorcycle attacked the mobile money operator, and demanded cash at gunpoint.
Mubiru told URN that the assailants escaped with an unspecified amount of money.
However, the deceased, and someone suspected to be a Boda-boda rider attempted to pursue them, prompting the assailants to open fire.
"When they chased them, the thieves jumped off the motorcycle and started shooting. The bullets hit the deceased and the Boda-boda rider. The thugs then fled, and immediately, the police arrived, but they had already escaped." Mubiru noted.
Owoyesigyire stated that more information about the incident would be released as the investigation progresses.
