A Kabale based Businessman, Kijwengye Semwogerere on Friday reportedly lost UGX200 million to thugs.
The robbery occurred at around 2pm at Kijongo-Hakitagata along the Kabale-Katuna road. The thugs who were reportedly armed attacked the businessman and robbed the cash before driving away.
Semwogerere is a money 'changer' at the Katuna boarder post with Rwanda.
It is alleged that the businessman, a resident of Kamuganguzi Sub County was heading to Katuna Boarder but parked by the road. The unknown thugs opened his Prado vehicle with registration number UAU 766Y, but as Semwogerere tried to drive off he lost control and the vehicle rolled several times.
The thugs removed the money from the car, while the businessman was left injured in vehicle. According to locals, the thugs drove off in an Ipsum vehicle.
Ssemogerere in now admitted at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.
The Kabale District Police Commander, Bosco Arop confirmed the incident, but added that they are hurting for the suspects.
