The police in Apac district are investigating circumstances under which thugs broke into Atar Health Center II in Apac Sub County.

Unidentified thugs on Wednesday night broke into the facility and stole five temperature guns, a weighing scale, and assortments of coartem, gloves and other valuable items.

The incident, however, comes barely two months after unknown assailants broke into the same health facility and made off with the hospital equipment worth 2.5 Million Shillings.

Geoffrey Okello Otafirre, the LCII Chairman of Abedi parish, says the incident occurred at the time when it was not guarded because the security guard was on sick leave and no patient was admitted at the ward.

The officer in charge Atar outpost George Ekol says that they have launched an investigation into the matter.

The theft has however has left patients neighbouring the health facility stranded.

Joan Akello, a mother of two says that they have always relied on Atar Health Center II, but now have no option but buy drugs from private drug shops.

Walter Oludi accuses management of the health centre for negligence. He suspects that some hospital staff could have connived with the thugs. He wants the police to investigate the matter thoroughly well.

According to records from the Out-Patients Department, Atar Health Center II receives between 300-400 patients every month.

Dr Mathew Emer, the Apac district Health Officer says they are waiting for a report from the hospital in-charge and the police before intervening into the matter.
