Tingei County MP out on Bail

The Member of Parliament for Tingei County in Kapchorwa, Herbert Sabila, has been granted bail after three weeks on remand for bribery.

Sabila was arrested with the Town Clerk of Kapchorwa, Nelson Sammy and a third suspect called Nathan Chelimo, for attempting to bribe an investigator from the Inspectorate of Government. They reportedly attempted to give him 700,000 shillings on January 23rd, convince him to drop investigations into the misappropriation of public funds in Kapchorwa Town Council.

Appearing before Kampala High Court judge, Justice Patrick Tabaro, the trio maintained their plea of innocence. They claimed they were victims of entrapment.

Justice Tabaro released them on a non-cash bail of 10 million shillings each and adjourned the case to February 13th.
