Toddler killed in House Fire

The deceased’s grandfather, Muhamudu Kakaire had gone to the garden and left the toddler under the care of his siblings. His seven-year-old brother is said to have locked the toddler inside the house and went to play with his friends only to return home and find the house engulfed with smoke.
The minor has perished in a house fire in Bugweri district. Four-year-old Ali Mususwa died this morning when fire gutted his parent’s home in Idudi village in Bugweri district.

The deceased’s grandfather, Muhamudu Kakaire had gone to the garden and left the toddler under the care of his siblings.  His seven-year-old brother is said to have locked the toddler inside the house and went to play with his friends only to return home and find the house engulfed with smoke.

He alerted the neighbours for help. Kakaire says that his grandson was burnt beyond recognition. “His sibling says that Ali was lying in one of the sofas when the fire gutted our entire house, killing my grandchild and destroying all the user items within,” he said.

Anthony Gambuze, the village LC I Chairperson says that they heard the baby cry but failed to save him. “On arrival at the scene, we heard faint voices of a child crying inside the house but since the door was locked, we struggled to gain access and by the time we broke the door, the baby was already dead,” he said.

Busoga East Police spokesperson, James Mubi says that inquiries are underway. He, however, says that available leads indicate that the fire resulted from the poor power connection. Mubi says that they have taken the deceased’s body to Iganga general hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
