Tooro Kingdom to Set Up ICT Centre

The Tooro Kingdom ICT Centre will be constructed at the Kingdom Administrative headquarters at Mucwa in Fort Portal and will be funded by King Oyo foundation and partners.

The King of Tooro Dr Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has launched the construction of the Kingdom’s Information and Communication Technology-ICT Centre.

The Tooro Kingdom ICT Centre will be constructed at the Kingdom Administrative headquarters at Mucwa in Fort Portal and will be funded by the King Oyo Foundation and partners. It will train youth to acquire skills in ICT and will comprise a computer laboratory, that will accommodate more than 70 learners.

Speaking at the launch of the centre on Friday, King Oyo said the initiative is part of the 25-year development plan for the Kingdom which is focused on improving the lives of his subjects.

Professor Charles Kwesiga the Executive director of Uganda Research Institute said that the institute will train the staff at the centre and equip it with computers and access to the internet.

The State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization Evelyn Anite applauded the King of Tooro for complementing the efforts of President Museveni by prioritizing ICT skills among the youth.

In 2020, the Kingdom of Tooro signed a Memorandum of Understanding-MoU with Uganda Industrial Research Institute- UIRI to establish an industrial research institute and specialized industrial park in Tooro. The park, valued at USD 100 million (366 billion Shillings), will be named the King Oyo Science, Technology, Innovation and Industrialization park.
