Top sides clash in MTN Basketball League

Finals for the MTN FUBA League start tomorrow at the YMCA court, Wandegeya. Game 1 of both the men and women\'s games will be played on Saturday.
In a repeat of last year’s finals, top sides DMark Power and Kyambogo Warriors face off today  in the men’s finals of the MTN FUBA League at the YMCA court, Wandegeya.

Women’s defending champions Uganda Christian University Lady Canons will take to the court first against a KCC Leopards side that seems to have lost their stem.

But the men’s final, a best of seven series promises to be a tough contest considering the fact that DMark Power will be more than hungry to try and retain their trophy, while the 2009 champions Kyambogo Warriors try to recapture the trophy.

To reach the finals, Warriors had to struggle to see off Miracle Eagles 3-2, while DMark Power came from a game down to brush aside UCU Canons in the semi finals. “We are going to play a very tactical game but it’s always important to win the first game in these finals to be able to get good momentum,” said Warriors coach Monday Juruni.

With Ivan Enabu the utility player for Kyambogo Warriors this season, he is expected to be under tight marking by the DMark Power guards. Senior players Issac Afidra, Isaac Lugudde and Ben Komakech are expected to lead DMark Power, while Warriors relies on Ronnie Kasewu, Brian Gumisiriza and the Malinga brothers.

The Basketball League is sponsored by MTN Uganda and attracts teams in three Divisions. The winning teams are assured of representing Uganda at the regional East and Central Basketball Championship.
