Timothy Toroitich will captain hosts Uganda during the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championship slated for March 26th.

Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) named the squad last evening for the event that will take place at the Kololo Independence grounds, Kampala.

2012 Olympics marathon gold medal winner Stephen Kiprotich is part of Uganda's senior men's team together with Philip Kipyeko, Timothy Toroitich, Stephen Kiisa, Abdalah Kibet Mande and Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei.

“We have picked a very strong team that is still under going training in the district of Kapchorwa,” added Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) President, Dominic Otuchet.

Beatrice Ayikoru, the Secretary general Federation told URN that they they expect a very competitive Championship and stiff competition from the likes of Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea who have good teams.

Over 200 athletes from across the globe are expected to compete at the biennial event, which is the oldest event in the IAAF world series. Uganda beat Bahrain in the bid to host the Championship.

Besides hosts Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia, the other nations that have confirmed participation include; China, USA, Morocco, Algeria, Comoros, Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Iraq, Great Britain, Japan, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Peru, France, Spain, Italy and Sri Lanka.

Senior men: Stephen Kiprotich, Philip Kipyeko, Timothy Toroitich, Abdalah Kibet Mande, Stephen Kiisa, Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei.

Senior women: Mercyline Chelangat, Racheal Zena Chebet, Stella Chesang, Doreen Chesang, Doreen Chesang, Doreen Chemutai, Emily Chebet

Junior men: Jacob Kiplimo, Titus Kwemoi Given, Victor Kiplangat, Elisha Chemutai, Kevin Kibet, Mathew Chekrui

Junior women: Peruth Chemutai, Esther Chekwemoi, Sarah Chelangat, Janat Chemusto, Adha Munuleya, Scarlet Chemos

Relay team: Winne Nanyondo, Geofrey Ruto, Docus Ajok, Ronald Musagala
