Fire has gutted several timber stores and carpentry workshops in Kabale municipality leaving traders counting huge losses.

The fire, which gutted the timber stores and carpentry workshops behind Highland Hotel commonly known as Mundeeba in Northern Division, broke out around 4 am this morning. Our reporter, who was at the scene, saw tongues of huge flames coming from the stores.

Residents tried to stop the fire using soil in vain. The Police Fire and Rescue Service team under the commander of Kabale District Police Commander, Muhammad Byansi also rushed to the store to try and put out the fire.

However, their efforts suffered a setback when the fire tender ran out of water leaving the officers no choice but to watch as the fire consumes the timber stores. Byansi declined to comment, saying that he was still busy.  There were reports of death or injuries by the time of publishing this story.
