Independent Presidential candidate Gen. Henry Tumukunde has excited the business community in Kumi after promising to build a modern market in Kumi Municipality.

Tumukunde, who concluded his four- day campaign trail in Teso told traders that the market is one of the components of development in an area which he notes employs many people. He said that besides constructing a modern market for traders, his government will also set aside financial aid for the traders which will be accessed with low-interest rates.

The retired general also rallied the people of Kumi to vote for the candidates who can solve their problems.

Kumi market, with the capacity of 288 stalls accommodates more than 500 vendors daily with several others conducting business on the floor, according to John Opolot, the chairperson of Kumi Market.

In Kalaki and Kaberamaido, Tumukunde promised to connect piped water to villages at affordable rates for the local communities to access. Tumukunde was moved when he saw young girls walking more than three kilometres to fetch water. 

Tumukunde also promised to pay veterans, restore cooperatives and expedite compensation of war victims in Teso.

According to Tumukunde, the people of Teso need a leader who will understand them, having gone through ages of trauma with political insecurity.
