Jorem Ogwang, an eye witness says the duo collapsed after taking 3 liters of crude waragi. He says the two had boasted that they can take three liters of waragi within 30 minutes. Residents suspect that the three couldn’t have taken alcohol on empty stomachs.
Two people are admitted
in Tororo Hospital in critical condition following a waragi drinking
competition. They are Paul Mwereza 35, a resident of Magoro "B" and
Paul Onyango 33, a resident of Pakamalungi village both in Magola Sub County.
It is alleged that the duo collapsed after engaging in a waragi drinking
competition organized by John Okongo aka Wenga at Pochulu trading Centre on Boxing
Day. Jorem Ogwang, an eye witness says the duo collapsed after taking 3 liters
of crude waragi.
He says the two had boasted that they can take three liters of waragi
within 30 minutes. Residents suspect that the
three couldn’t have taken alcohol on empty stomachs.
Ojwang Obbo, the Magola
Sub County LC III Chairperson has decried such
competitions in his area, saying those responsible shall be held accountable. “We are still
monitoring the situation and we shall respond accordingly if the situations get
out of hand," he said.
He advises
residents to engage in other important games and sports instead of playing with
their lives.
