Two Arrested for Defacing Museveni Posters

Police in Moroto have arrested a Rwandan national for allegedly defacing the campaign posters of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

27-year-old Bin Muhamud Arafat Kaitare was arrested on Thursday evening by the police after he allegedly pulled down Museveni's poster from a bill board.

George Obia, Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson claims that Kaitare a resident of Kisenyi in Kampala removed president Museveni's posters from a bill board and replaced them with those of Olara Otunu.

Obia explains that Kaitare was arrested together with his accomplice Arafat Nsubuga following a tip off from members of the public. He says the two are due to be produced in court to answer charges of defacing a candidate's posters.

But David Pulkol the Uganda People's Congress Chairperson for Karamoja region says the two who were arrested at last evening are workers of an advertising company.

He says the two had come to Moroto to put up Olara Otunu's campaign posters on the company bill board but they found those of president Museveni on it.

He says the two company workers went ahead and removed president Museveni's posters from the bill board because they had not paid for the space. Pulkol explains the two were then arrested by police as they were putting Olara Otunu's campaign posters on the bill board.

UPC leaders were by yesterday afternoon still trying to secure bail for the suspects.
