Police in Masindi are holding two suspects for allegedly hacking to death a cattle keeper.

The suspects are Turikumwe Mugisha 21 and Seperani Imanishimwe 19 both residents of Kyangamoyo village in Kijunjuba parish, Kijunjuba sub county Masindi district.

It is alleged that on Monday this week, the two suspects together with others who are still at large attacked and hacked Paul Rwamuhanda 50, a herdsman in the same village whom they found grazing his cows in their maize plantation. He was severally hacked on the head.

Though Rwamuhanda was rushed to Kitara Medical Center in Masindi town for treatment, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network on Wednesday that after the brutal murder of the herdsman, police swung into action and started hunting for the suspects.

They were arrested on Tuesday evening from the same village and immediately whisked to Masindi central police station where they are currently being detained.

According to Hakiza, once police investigations are through, the duo will be arraigned before court to be charged with murder.

Hakiza says the hunt for other suspects who are also believed to have participated in the murder of the deceased is ongoing.

He has appealed to farmers and herdsmen to always find a peaceful way of solving their misunderstandings rather than resorting to violence.
