suspects are Mubarak Bulo and Kasim Kasibu, both residents of Nakavule village in
Iganga district. They were arrested on Fruday in an operation led by the Jinja Resident District
Commissioner, Eric Sakwa.
were found in possession of 2 million Shillings which they had extorted from Harriet
Gandhi, the head teacher of Victoria Nile primary school.
It is alleged that the suspects have
been soliciting money from head teachers of different schools with promises of earning
them promotions at the Ministry of Education.
Gandhi told journalists that, the duo started demanding for the money in
February last year and vowed to cause her demotion if she failed to give them
"they started threatening me way back in February that, if I failed to deliver
the money in two months, I would risk losing my job following their influence
at the education ministry,” she says.
Gandhi added that “I even called some of their counterparts about the men,
and they confirmed to me that, the two are state house operatives who were sent
by the education ministry to supervise government schools,”
Sakwa says that the suspects have been defrauding teachers in Luuka, Kamuli and Iganga districts.
