Two people in Fort-portal have been arrested for their alleged involvement in Fuel Siphoning.

Robert Muhumuza of Karago town council and Zaid Muzamiru of  Kisenyi surburb in Fort Portal town were arrested on Wednesday during a crackdown on suspected fuel thieves.

The operation mounted by the district security committee led by  Amon Rutenta and Joseph Mashuhuko, and District Police Commander Joseph Kihamba, stems form increasing concerns about the impact of fuel siphoning on road works.

The District Police Commander Kabarole says the suspects were found with five jerricans of diesel and

27 empty jerricans belonging to CICO the company constructing the Fort-Portal Bunndibugyo road.

Police recovered 300,000 shillings from the suspects believed to be part of the fuel sales.

CICO security manager, Moon K said on Wednesday that the company has over the past four months lost more than 134,000 liters of fuel to thieves. He said that the persistent thefts have slowed down the roadworks.

Moon says that the company drivers and employees are conniving with the thieves to siphon fuel from the trucks used in road construction works.
