Two Businessmen Held over Possession of Govt Drugs

Two people are in custody at Kabale Central Police station after they were allegedly found in possession of government drugs. The two are identified as Frank Ensinikweri, 34 and Tom Akampurira who is aged 25. They are both businessmen from Kibeho cell, Murambi parish, Rweikiniro sub county in Ntungamo District.

Two people are in custody at Kabale Central Police station after they were allegedly found in possession of government drugs.

The two are identified as Frank Ensinikweri, 34 and Tom Akampurira who is aged 25. They are both businessmen from Kibeho cell, Murambi parish, Rweikiniro sub county in Ntungamo District.

 

They were arrested last night at around 01:00am while at Katuna border town in Katuna town council.

They were found with a huge box full of assorted drugs loaded in a Toyota Premio registration number UAY 636C while heading to Rwanda.

Dickens Bindeeba, the Kabale District Police Commander says that some of the drugs that were found in the box include; Coartem, Diazepam, Diclofenac, Cipro, trixone plus injections and syringes among others.

He says all the drugs were found with government labels on them.

Bindeeba says that security officials at the border were forced to act after the suspects hesitated to open their vehicle for checking.

Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi region says that the suspects are being detained to explain where they got the drugs and where they were heading.

Maate adds that they will appear in court to answer the charges accordingly after investigations into the matter are complete.

The suspects declined to talk to journalists.

Their arrest comes a few days after Remmy Yesiime, the Laboratory technician at Kabiira Health Centre III in Mitooma district was arrested over the disappearance of 500 HIV testing kits.
