Two children have been killed by a wall as their family relocates after eviction by Nakasongola army barracks at Kasenyi village in Lwapanga Sub County on Wednesday evening.

The dead has been identified as Winnie Muduwa (7) and Nicholas Gift (1.5) years.

Early this week, the management of Luweero Industries, the company that produces bullets for Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF) and Nakasongola Army barracks ordered more than 2000 residents of Kasenyi village to vacate the land immediately to pave way for development of the land.

The Chairman LC 3 of Lwapanga sub county George Lubega says that the affected families de-roofed their homes and started to relocate to other villages that include Kibuye, Kikoyiro, Zengebe and other nearby villages.

However Lubega explains that the affected resident identified only as Nabidde was leaving the village when the rain started. Nabidde decided to seek shelter with her family in the partly de-roofed house to wait out the rain and then continue with their journey.

Lubega says a wall of the house collapsed on the children killing them and injuring Nabidde. It is believed the rain weakened the exposed walls.

The father identified as Julius Wetaka was reportedly away trying to look for where to relocate the family

Lubega and residents complain that they were given little time to relocate and not compensated.

James Lutwama explains that a section of affected families are now sleeping in camps and others in trees because they were not compensated to relocate and buy more land.

The Spokesperson of Nakasongola Army Barracks Lieutenant Steven Tumwesigye couldn't be reached for comment on allegations by residents and the death.

But Nakasongola District Police Commander Dick Ayesigomwe confirmed the incident and eviction of the residents. Ayesigomwe explains that the dead bodies were transferred to Nakasongola Army Hospital for postmortem before they allow family to bury them today.

He added that they have issued orders that all those affected families should leave their houses demolished to avert further incidents in the area.

Ayesigomwe strongly insisted that the affected people had been compensated and given notices to leave early.

The affected residents have been occupying over 50 acres of land that is found near Kasenyi landing site on the shores of Lake Kyoga and Nakasongola army barracks. The affected families say that they have been occupying the land in question since 1960.
