An early morning accident
in Kween district has claimed the life of two people and left another in
critical condition.
Fredmark Chesang, the
Sipi Region Police spokesperson, says that the accident occurred around 6am on
Tuesday in Kaptoyoy along the newly constructed Kapchorwa-Saum Highway.
He identified the deceased as one Mukuu an irish potatoe dealer, Maxwell Toskin
who was a driver and the survivor as Juliet Lengbwa.
According to Chesang, the dead were traveling on a
Fuso Truck registration number UBF 787 U ferrying Irish Potatoes, which veered
off the road and overturned. Chesang attributes the accident to overloading and
poor mechanical condition of the vehicle.
Their bodies are lying at Kapchorwa hospital
mortuary waiting to be identified while the injured one is in Kapchorwa
hospital receiving treatment. According to an eyewitness, the vehicle lost
control while sloping the hilly road as it tried to negotiate a corner.
A similar accident occurred in July 2024,
were a trailer attached to Nile Breweries lost control on Towei Hill along Kapchorwa-Mbale
Highway as it failed to negotiate a corner, injuring the driver and other two
people.
